Abstract

Статтю присвячено особливостям мови оповідачів-вбивць у англомовній художній літературі. Таки типи оповідачів вважаються ненадійними. Вони навмисно викривляють факти та події, а також перекладають провину на іншу людину. (The article focuses on the peculiarities of unreliable narrators in English prose, deviations in their speech. It also touches upon the problem of the main characters’ speech in the novels of Agatha Christie «The Murder оf Roger Ackroyd» and James Hadley Chase «Come Easy – Go Easy» and in the tale «The Tell-Tale Heart» by Edgar Allan Poe. Narrative in these novels and the tale is presented through narrator’s point of view and is characterized by all kinds of different deviations. The present stage of linguistic research is characterized by an increased interest towards the problem connected with the study of peculiarities of narrators’ speech and its typical deviations in English prose. Despite the fact that the study of the problem was investigated by many scientists, the main types of deviation from the norms of literary language and standard deviation were not considered. The problems of deviations in narrator’s speech are still discussed by a lot of influential scientists. The relevance of the chosen topic represents the description of the characteristics of narrators’ speech and its standard deviations: phonetic, grammatical and syntactical used in the language of the main characters. The use of the typical deviations in narrators’ speech plays an important role in literature. The aim of our article is to determine the stylistic peculiarities and syntactical deviations from the literary norm in the speech of the main characters. On the whole, the choice of the vocabulary depends on the theme of the novel, type of the narrators, and the environment of the characters, through whose point of view the story is presented. The choice of unreliable narrators helps the authors to broaden the readers’ outlook, to see the world from unexpected angles. The results of the research can serve as a theoretical and practical basis for further study of the peculiarities of unreliable narrators’ speech and its typical deviations. The prospects of investigation are to describe the peculiarities of other unreliable narrators in English literature.)
