Анотація
Розглядаються шляхи поширення книжок серед містян Правобережної України у ХІХ – початку ХХ ст. через такі канали комунікації, як навчальні заклади, публічні бібліотеки, книгарні, друкарні, народні читання. Акцентується увага на ролі шкіл – насамперед середніх, у формуванні ширшого кола читачів. Стверджується, що книжки, переважно російською мовою, стали невід’ємною частиною культурного життя не лише губернських, а й повітових міст та містечок. Натомість українськомовні видання складали незначний відсоток у книгорозповсюдженні.
(This article examines distribution channels for books among the citizens of the Right-Bank Ukraine in the 19th – the beginning of the 20th cc (such as educational establishments, public libraries, book shops, publishing houses, public readings).
The emphasis is made on the role of schools (the secondary ones in the first place) in creating a broader circle of readers. School libraries, bookshops and warehouses, specially organized auctions to sell old book were played a role in achieving this objective. A wide-spread practice was to reward the most successful pupils with books, to freely distribute printed materials during cultural and educational events.
The article emphasizes participation of public and elected bodies of city powers in the organization of public libraries and reading places during the post-reformation period. The article ascertains that mainly Russian books became an essential part of the cultural life not only in
regional (hubernskiy) towns, but also in provincial (povitoviy) towns and in some small towns. In contrast, Ukrainian editions comprised a negligible fraction of book distributions.)
