Анотація
Творчість Р.Желязни характеризується розмиванням кордонів між науковою фантастикою та фентезі. Цей жанр може бути названим «науковою фентезі», а його квінтесенція полягає у ваганнях щодо можливості пізнання світу за допомогою науки, що поєдналося із вірою у інші сили, котрі керують світом та його законами.
(The problem of world-creation is one of the leading in classical fantasy, starting with J.Tolkien. Preferably the reference to that aspect is limited to the creation of the new universe by the writer himself. R.Zelazny’s creative work is characterized by blurring the boundaries between science fiction and fantasy. The genre in which he worked could be called «science fantasy.»
The quintessential of «science fantasy» genre is within the hesitation of the possibility to understand the world via science, which is followed by the belief in some forces that rule the world and its laws.
A striking example of this synthesis in R.Zelazny’s works are «The Chronicles of Amber». R.Zelazny’s cosmogony combines the features of pagan cosmogony with the idea of Christian God the Creator. The writer creates the Fiery Path or Maze as the entrance to his universe. It was drawn by the demiurge Dwarkin. Passing it is a kind of initiation because for an average person it can become fatal.
The writer focuses on the gradual mastering the ability to establish mental contact even without magic cards by the Princes of Amber. The definition of the divine has become an integral part of the creative concept of the writer. Going through the hatred, pain, despair turns a person into a creator. Raising the protagonist and narrator of the first five books, Prince Corwin, to the level of the demiurge, the author embodies in it two divine incarnations: it’s God the Father, who created a new world, and the son of martyr.)
