Анотація
Стаття торкається проблеми формування національної ідентичності в сучасному багатонаціональному суспільстві. Аналізується «діаспорна ідентичність», яка виникає на перехресті двох культур: рідної на набутої. Шляхи, якими прямують етнічні письменники у напрямку до своєї національної самоїдентифікації, дуже різні і залежать від
ступеня інтеграції в культуру країни еміграції.
(The article deals with the problem of the formation of national identity in a modern multi-ethnic society. We analyze the «diasporic identity», which occurs at the junction of two cultures: native or acquired. The ways which ethnic writers choose towards their own national identity, vary depending on the degree of integration into the culture of the country of emigration.
In fact we move towards cross-cultural or multi-ethnic societies. Perhaps an era of post-ethnic culture is coming. Under such circumstances there is a crisis of a national identity. Is it useless after all? So modern social processes demonstrate the tendency to destroy national identities. In this context we observe the situation where the Ukrainian-Canadian authors have
the ambivalent identity. It causes appearance of transcultural texts often based on real historical facts and events. Difficult conditions of life in the country of emigration mainly provoke the national identity’s crisis which has keenly revealed in the texts of the writers-emigrants. More or less they ask themselves: who are they: still Ukrainians or already Canadians?)
