У статті висвітлено інституційний характер медіадискурсу та проаналізовано учасників спілкування, а саме їх статусно-рольові характеристики у процесі передачі інформації про дистрес у медіатекстах. (The article aims at elucidating institutional character of media discourse and analyzing the participants of interaction, namely their status and roles they possess in the process of transmission the information about distress in media texts. Mass communication flows in the form of article-comment-reply 1, reply 2 where the multi-sender through the article provides large, heterogeneous and anonymous audience with the facts and emotions and gets feedback in web-comments which in their turn provoke multiple replies. The author of the article detects the fact that the emotional portrait of the reader comprises both the evaluative and the figurative components. The latter are reflected in the linguistic and stylistic means (metaphor, metonymic epithets, satire, antithesis) which the recipient chooses to reply to the message and which display his/her attitude to the information about distress. The research shows that the level of influence on emotional and volitional sphere of the audience defines the degree of speech producer’s authority and his/her higher social status in mass communication. If the response has negative character, the addresser is supposed to have lower status. The social roles addressers play in the course of communication may vary and overlap depending on the goal of the message (influence people’s behavior through political and economical issues, motivate readers to act, suggest the specific solutions to the social problems). The direct roles may be elicited by the context in which distress occurs (politics, economy, medicine, legal affairs). The addresser may acquire additional roles acting consequently as medical journalist-teacher, priest-in-charge-agitator, staff writer-publicist, and politician-journalist.)
