Анотація

The article studies Germany’s participation in the discussions about the intensification of EU’s
Eastern Policy. It has been proved that the EU’s Eastern Policy is Berlin’s ongoing priority.
Apparently, Germany’s interests are of the economic type.
The article emphasizes on the main aspects of German initiative Black Sea Synergy. Germany’s
position regarding the main aspects of Eastern Partnership has been determined; these aspects
include the possible memberships of recipient countries, visa regime liberalization, and project
funding. The co‐operation between Germany and the Eastern Partnership countries has been
analyzed. Berlin’s official position on the conflict between Ukraine and Russia has been
described. Germany’s role in uniting EU countries around the Ukrainian issue, in particular,
sanctions against Russia, has been determined. Currently, EU countries seem to take into
account the authority of Germany and its position. The article demonstrates that the motto of
Germany’s Eastern Policy “Russia first” is still topical.
