Анотація

У цій статті розглядається питання сенсорики запаху і смаку в контексті їх словесно-образної репрезентації у романах британської письменниці Дж. Харріс «Chocolat» та «Blackberry Wine» з когнітивно-семіотичних позицій.
(This article considers the issue of smell and taste sensory imagery in terms of its verbal representation in Chocolat and Blackberry Wine by the British writer Joanne Harris. The paper approaches the phenomena of smell and taste, artistically construed in the analyzed novels, through their neurophysiological, cognitive, cultural, and semiotic lens. Smell is viewed as a perceptive concept that integrates its notional and cultural components; it is regarded as a complex phenomenon that encompasses its biological form, perception influenced by individuals’ social and cultural background, and the emotions it causes, linked to the perceiver’s previous experience. Taste is regarded as a metaphor of personality identification, social situation
and cognition, as well as a reflection of empirical, aesthetic, and psychological experience. The research focuses on the role and functions of olfactory and gustatory imagery in the novels by J. Harris as well as their verbal expression.)
