Анотація
У статті розглядаються безособові синтаксичні структури як реалізація евіденційної стратегії. Дослідження враховує теоретичні інтерпретації категорії евіденційності та зіставляє її з категорією модальності. Проаналізовано як граматичну, так інформаційну структуру речень; з’ясовано, що вона пов’язана з комунікативно-прагматичними інтенціями мовця. Аналіз базується на корпусі англомовних текстів з гуманітарних наук.
(In this paper we have analyzed impersonal syntactic structures as an evidential strategy. The research has been carried out on a corpus of scholarly texts in the Humanities, which are of special interest here as texts for which truth-conditions and source of information are of special significance. Firstly, the notion of the category of evidentiality has been clarified with
reference to the previous studies on this topic, pointing out the difference between evidentiality proper (as a grammatical category) and evidential strategies. One of realizations of such strategies in English are impersonal syntactic structures, such as «it is said/reported/etc. that». Then, we have analyzed them both in terms of their grammatical and information structure, and
it has been found, that their usage is triggered by the communicative aims of the author. Impersonal evidential constructions are placed in the left periphery of sentences, where they function as Mod heads (modifiers). Such constructions do not only express evidentiality, but also modality; both these elements of their meaning are close, but not identical. The paper presents
a communicative approach to the academic texts, taking the peculiarities of their syntactic structure as a starting point. Science and the language of science are hardly separable, and it is important, due to the growing scientific communication, that scientific texts reach their communicative goals and communicate ideas successfully.)
