Анотація

У статті розглянуто особливості вербалізації концепту «marriage» в християнському пуританському етикодидактичному дискурсі. Даний концепт входить до соціального концептополя «Особиста сфера людського життя» та до концептосфери «Людина». На основі когнітивно-семантичного та лексико-граматичного аналізу слівсупровідників до домінантної лексеми «marriage» виділено основні когнітивні сегменти-семи.
(In the article the author investigates verbalization of the concept MARRIAGE in Puritan ethical and didactic discourse,
based on the treatise «Christian Economics: or, The Family Directory, Containing Directions for the True Practice of All Duties Belonging to Family Relations, with the Appurtenances». The selection of the text to be analyzed was not a random one.
It was in Puritan family-oriented writings that marriage and family were elevated to the level of godly enclaves, «marriage bonds» are opposed to «worldly mind and life». The author of the article applies linguistic techniques to elicit these ideas from this crucial and yet largely underestimated treatise. Being communicative, each text can transmit a particular message from the source to the recipient and can affect feelings of the latter, awaken certain emotional reaction, and stimulate
actions. Lingvo-cultural approach presumes a possibility of modeling a conceptual system (a set of concepts as discursive configurations) of a certain nation by studying separate concepts, therefore making this article a step towards comprehending and making the inventory of British concepts. «Marriage» is multi-level cognitive concept, a constituent of «Private sphere of human life» conceptual field, which is a part of «Human Being» conceptual system. In covenantal Puritan understanding, «marriage» is based on conjugal love and encompasses the following semes: state, contract, preparation, hierarchy (God→h usband→wife→children→servants), duties, love, cohabitation, partnership, mental and physical unity, coziness and forward-looking behavior. R.Baxter’s Puritan understanding of marriage can fit into the following main semes: «companionship», «love», «children» and «glory of God», sexual intercourse is accepted only for a sober procreation of children. Proverbs and sayings, metaphoric extensions and syntagmatic relations are also targeted by the analysis.)
