Анотація
У статті розглянуто особливості застосовування художньо-образного порівняння в поезіях Езри Паунда, зокрема виокремлено чотири семантичні моделі цієї стилістичної фігури мови, визначено кількісні та якісні аспекти
їх використання у віршах поета. У результаті аналізу семантичного значення суб’єктів та об’єктів художньо-образного порівняння встановлено, що в своїх поезіях Езра Паунд надає перевагу зіставленню неживих предметів.
(The paper looks at the use of the stylistic device of simile in the selection of poems written by the renowned American poet – Ezra Pound. The instances of the simile usage in the poems were analyzed and classified into different semantic models in accordance with the meaning of the subject and the object of comparison. As a result the four semantic models of simile were singled out and their qualitative and quantitative features were specified. It was determined in the research that the prevalent
model of simile in the poems was the comparison of two inanimate objects. At the same time the second model of simile, the comparison of an animate being to an inanimate object, was found as less frequent as well as the third one where the two living beings were contrasted. The rarest found in the poems was, however, the fourth model of simile i.e. the comparison of an inanimate thing to an animate being. In addition the research revealed that Ezra Pound widely employed words denoting various natural phenomena in the function of objects of comparison amongst which the poet not once resorted to the lexeme «wind» to give diverse characteristics to the subjects of comparison.)
