Анотація

У статті розглядаються проблеми класифікації топонімів та принципи поділу топонімічного матеріалу на групи, представлені різними дослідниками. Аналізуються назви природно-географічних об’єктів, вжиті авторами у французьких романах ХІХ-ХХ століть.
(Toponyms occupy a special place in French novels because they define dominant structure of the literary work. Similarly to all proper names toponyms are subject to general laws of literary context and are stylistically and expressively marked. The topicality of the article given consists in a try to observe semantic meaning of different types of toponyms.
The problems of toponyms classification and principles of toponymical material division into groups are observed. Differentclassifications of geographical objects composed by foreign and national researchers are presented. Detailed classification of English place names with element –stead by K.Sandred is considered. Real and imaginary toponyms (hydronyms, phytonyms, drymonyms, speleonyms) in French novels of ХІХ-ХХ centuries are analysed. Their semantics, structure and sometimes functions in the literary work are substantiated.)
