Анотація
Темою статті є процес відшукування індивідуальної ідентичності через мову досвіду і травми української родини на тлі ХХ ст., тобто через наративізацію ідентичності колективу. В центрі дослідницької уваги — книжка американської письменниці українського походження Меґан Баскі «Ще не вмерла Україна. Родинна історія заслання і повернення» (2023). Розвідка має на меті з’ясувати, як повномасштабна воєнна інтервенція Росії в Україну спровокувала інтерес до власної ідентичності нащадків українських емігрантів, народжених і вихованих в абсолютно інших мовно-культурних реаліях. У результаті встановлено, що мова як засіб збереження і кодування історичних смислів стає основним клю- чем до ідентичнісного порозуміння і взаємоприйняття між поколіннями одного роду.
(Th e scholarly analysis of contemporary literary texts oft en requires a departure from traditional interpretive methods, primarily due to shift s in their functions, but also because modern literary works are created under extraordinary conditions. In this context, it is important not only that many narratives are grounded in the traumatic experiences of the war in Ukraine. A notable factor is that the war itself has provoked an exceptional interest in Ukrainian history. Th e study focuses on the process of recovering individual identity through the language of experience and trauma within the Ukrainian family against the backdrop of the twentieth century. It is noteworthy that language—as a means of preserving and encoding historical sense—emerges as the key to achieving intergenerational understanding and mutual recognition within a single lineage. Th e central focus of this research is “Ukraine Is Not Yet Dead: A Family Story of Exile and Return” by the American writer of Ukrainian descent Megan Buskey. It was the full-scale Russian military invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 that compelled the author to narrativize the history of her Ukrainian family. Th e war for identity on the European continent has intensifi ed the urgency of these issues within a generation and society that might have appeared to have long ceased to focus on them. In this context, the marginalization of traumatic Ukrainian memory of the twentieth century demands special scholarly attention. Th is very memory has played a decisive role in the current confrontation between Ukraine and Russia. Th e experience of repression, censorship, mass killings, and suppression of Ukrainian national liberation movements throughout the twentieth century has become essential for comprehending Russia’s contemporary military objectives in Ukraine, as well as for Ukrainians’ understanding of the war as a struggle for the right to remember and to construct their own national identity strategy. )
