Анотація
Стаття присвячена вивченню емоційного концепту «fear» та особливостям його вербалізації в романі Дена Брауна «Інферно». Проаналізовано мовні засоби об’єктивізації концепту, виділено когнітивні ознаки та змодельовано його структуру.
(The article deals with the emotional concept of «fear» and peculiarities of its verbalization in the novel «Inferno» by Dan Brown. In the course of the research, the author employs the method of constructing the concept field model, that includes the description of the center and periphery.
From the research that has been done, it is evident that the concept under analysis has a very wide language expression
in the Dan’s Brown novel «Inferno». The text objectifies all cognitive features of the concept which were extracted from the dictionary definitions: «bad feeling», «reaction to danger», «waiting for something bad», «waiting for pain», «reaction to something powerful». Moreover, the investigation of the text reveals the additional features of the concept: «fear is caused by something related to death», «reaction to the lack of information», «fear is caused by a piece of art or literary work», «reaction
to strange creatures and the other world», «fear for mankind». These cognitive features belong to the center of the concept.
The author uses and creates himself a number of cognitive metaphors to emphasize figuratively such concept features
as: «speed», «suddenness», «sharpness, penetration», «prevalence», «instant spread», «uncontrollability and rapid growth», «defense». It has been also found out, that the writer often verbalizes the concept implicitly by describing somatic symptoms experienced by a fearing person. In this way, the author attempts to influence the recipient of the text, makes them fear as much as the heroes of the novel do. The cognitive metaphors and description of somatic symptoms are the ways of the concept verbalization that constitute the periphery of the concept.)
