Анотація

У статті розглянуто бінарну опозицію МОЛОДИЙ – СТАРИЙ і досліджено її концептуалізацію в українській
лінгвокультурі. Аналіз здійснено на основі даних, вибраних із корпусу текстів української мови. Було експліковано
семантичні ознаки, які характеризують члени протиставлення МОЛОДИЙ – СТАРИЙ у відібраних контекстах.
Значення слів молодий і старий, виявлені шляхом аналізу текстів, були зіставлені зі словниковими дефініціями.
(The article describes the binary opposition YOUNG – OLD and investigates its conceptualization in the Ukrainian language
and culture. The analysis has been based on the data, collected from the corpus of the Ukrainian language, namely from its part containing the publicistic texts. The semantic traits that characterize the members of the opposition YOUNG – OLD in the selected contexts were explicated. The meanings of the words young and old revealed from the analyzed texts were compared to those from the lexicographical definitions. Most of the revealed characteristics of YOUNG and OLD are typical for these concepts and therefore can been found in the dictionaries. These are semantic traits like beauty, strength, inexperience, verdancy, and short period of the existence for the YOUNG, on the one hand, and weakness, infirmity, solitude, wisdom, experience, and long period
of the existence for the OLD, on the other hand. But some features that were found in the analyzed contexts, such as mental capacity, elegance, passion, energy, ambition, dynamism for the YOUNG, and good, reliable (about friend, mate) etc. for the OLD were not given in the lexicographical definitions. The members of the opposition YOUNG – OLD are contrasted to each other with regard to the features like experience / inexperience, power / infirmity, health / sickliness, short / long period of existence etc.)
