Анотація
The article presents a semantic-cognitive analysis of the concept Ukraine, verbally represented in the speeches of American president B. Obama. Peculiarities of the conceptual picture of the world of the United States president are highlighted. The objective of the article is as follows. First, the article aims to demonstrate that the concept Ukraine is verbally represented in speeches of B. Obama. It means that Ukraine as the country, paving way to democracy despite the war with Russia, is in the focus of American leaders. Second, we suggest that there is connection between the concept described, its pragmatic orientation and cognitive processes. Third, there is a necessity to describe semantic peculiarities of the concept Ukraine in political speeches of the American leader due to the role of Ukraine in the local and regional context. Our research is based on content-analysis of political speeches delivered by American leader. Functional, communicative and pragmatic orientation of political speeches is highlighted. In line with approaches of cognitive scholars we come to the conclusion that the concept Ukraine is a complex semantic-cognitive structure that consists of core, transition zone and periphery. While doing the research we have worked out fifteen speeches delivered by American President B. Obama during 2014. This research presupposes application of content analysis. It is useful in the analysis of international relations with respect to notions used by President Obama in his speeches delivered during 2014 in the formats: the USA – Ukraine, Ukraine – Russia, the USA – Russia, Europe-Ukraine.
