Анотація

Стаття присвячена дослідженню індивідуально-авторських перетворень фразеологічних одиниць у романах
британського письменника-постмодерніста Джаспера Ффорде. Опис структурно-семантичних особливостей фра-
зеологічних одиниць та їхніх функцій займає чільне місце у даному дослідженні. Індивідуально-авторську картину
світу у художньому прозовому тексті трактовано з позиції теорії можливих світів. Художній прозовий текст є
описом істини у можливому світі, а не в дійсному світі.
(This paper focuses on idioms of English language in individually-author’s picture of the world in the novels of British writer of postmodern literature.
The problem of description of structural and semantic peculiarities of phraseological units and their pragmatic functions in textual space of J. Fforde’s novels is solved through a comprehensive approach that integrates generally scientific, generally linguistic and phraseological methods and techniques of the analysis. Language world picture reflects and interprets reality by way of language means and phraseological units take an important place among them. Author’s consciousness is
inevitably connected with individually-author’s picture of the world. Individually-author’s picture of the world is a fragment of language world picture in the light of author’s outlook, worldview and perception of the world. The author describing his own worldview creates a prose work of fiction which in turn describes fictional picture of the world.
Individually-author’s picture of the world in fiction is considered from the viewpoint of possible worlds. While creating new reality the author uses isolated language data and his own language and social experience, his knowledge and interpretation mechanisms, which are manifested through processes of categorization and conceptualization of the world. Firstly, possible worlds are used as a part of true semantics for modal notions. Secondly, statements are true or false in the semantics of possible worlds. A work of fiction might be considered like a description of what is true in possible world but not in the real world.)
